The City of Smiles! Bacolod is best known for their incomparable world-known hospitality and delectable food – one cannot just avoid digging in, no time for degustation! Bacolod is also the largest urbanized city in Negros Occidental, where the gateway to the “Taj Mahal of Negros” (The Ruins) is located.
One of the biggest Philippine festivals is also celebrated in Bacolod – The Masskara Festival. It is held every third weekend of October. The grand street parade and the street dance competition is always held on a Sunday. Since I love going to PH festivals, I had to be there to capture the festivity, also to meet with my co-Instagrammer friends – who I also had the most wonderful time hanging out with.

Masskara is a Mardi Gras-like festival, complete with colorful costumes, upbeat music, and impressive mix of dances.
Bacolod is also known as the “Sugar Bowl of the Philippines” because it is the major producer of sugar cane and sugar in the country.
The term “masskara” is actually a combination of the words “mass” (an assembly of people) and “kara” (derived from the Spanish word cara, which means “face”)
My friend told me that yearly, on the day of the street parade, even if the weather is good, there’s rain. But luckily, the time I was there, it didn’t. So I was able to capture photos such as what I posted above. Thank Heavens!
