If there’s something I like more than a stroll in a cool shopping mall – is a freshly made bowl of flavorful ramen from a reliable and known ramen house. Good thing Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen at SM Aura in Taguig has already re-opened their doors to guests in August 2018. I’ve been to Ikkoryu at SM Aura in the past, and I really did notice how they improved the overall experience for every customer.
We’re Back! says this huge sign outside the restaurant. Looking at that delicious bowl of ramen, who wouldn’t be enticed? Waiting for tables to become available? No problem! you can conveniently sit like a king or queen at those huge wooden chairs you see above.
As soon as you step in Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen, you will instantly be transported to Japan. The warm greeting of every staff, the intricate decor, everything resonates modern Japanese dining. Though I wish the floor area to be bigger so they could accommodate more ramen hungry patrons.
IKKORYU FUKUOKA RAMEN is a new brand concept launched by Yamagoya Ramen, established since 1970, specializing in CHIKUHO noodles, Tonkotsu soup, Gyoza (Dumplings) and Chashu roast pork.
- Chicken Karaage – I super enjoyed their karaage. These golden fried wonders were served in precise temperature, not too hot and definitely not cold, and just the right balance of flavor that will burst in your mouth with accompaniment of tender chicken meat with very little to no fat. PRICE: ₱180 ~ $3.3
- Potato Croquette – These are rolls made of, you guessed it, potatoes! They were a little crunchy on the outside, soft and tasty on the inside. Make sure you also eat them after being served for the best quality and flavor. Kids and kids at heart will love this! PRICE: ₱160 ~ $3
- Original Gyoza – Gyozas are Japanese stuffed wonton wrappers. The description itself makes me want to try it already haha! But true to what Kris Aquino said on her Kris TV feature, Ikkoryu’s gyozas are really good – they’re meaty, palatable, and very appetizing! unlike other gyozas that are bland and basic. super worth your money. (TV feature at the end of this page). PRICE: ₱150 ~ $2.8
- Ajitama Tonkotsu (Ikkoryu’s original hearty Tonkotsu ramen garnished with Chashu, green onion, bamboo shoots, wood ear and dried seaweed topped with special half-boiled egg that’s fully marinated with a special blended soy sauce base) – The very first thing I noticed is the rich tonkotsu broth (simmered pork marrow cooked for hours) that’s cooked for hours which brought out extraordinary flavors not found in all ramen houses in Manila. There’s that distinct taste from the rich broth you will crave for. Not too salty, just the right seasoning you can adjust to your liking. I also liked the half boiled egg that was marinated with their special soy sauce. I thought it was Ajitama Tonkotsu’s perfect pair. PRICE: ₱380 ~ $7.1
- Miso Tonkotsu – (Ikkoryu’s original hearty Tonkotsu ramen with special blended quality Miso paste garnished with Chashu, green onion, bamboo shoots, wood ear and dried seaweed) – The rich tonkotsu broth mixed with Miso paste (traditional Japanese seasoning) enhanced the overall flavor and aroma of the ramen bowl. Miso paste is generally salty because the main ingredient is fermented soya beans, but for me it wasn’t too overpowering. Just the right amount for a pleasurable finish. PRICE: ₱380 ~ $7.1
NOODLE 自家製麺 “Our original noodles are freshly made, using premium flour imported from Japan. We pay constant attention in humidity and temperature control room to deliver consistently high quality texture and taste.”
- Black Garlic Tonkotsu – (Ikkoryu’s original hearty Tonkotsu ramen with special special roast garlic oil garnished with Chashu, green onion, bamboo shoots, wood ear and dried seaweed) – This special broth is obviously for all garlic lovers out there. The garlicky taste was very strong, and if you want to sample on a different and unique tonkotsu broth, this is a must try. PRICE: ₱380 ~ $7.1
- Aburi Chashu Tonkotsu – (Ikkoryu’s original hearty Tonkotsu ramen garnished with generous slices of Aburi Chashu, green onion, bamboo shoots, wood ear and dried seaweed) – Aburi means flame seared. No wonder this is their best-seller. The flame seared chashu had a little smokey/grilled taste that Filipinos very much love. PRICE: ₱400 ~ $7.5
